About Pork Storks
Pork Storks Australia operate two state-of-the-art pig artificial insemination facilities that encompass superior health, environmental control and quality management systems. The computer monitored temperature, ventilation, water and feed systems, strict health, hygiene and quarantine procedures ensure the customer receives the highest quality semen available at all times of the year.
Boars are managed according to the best practice principles and are monitored daily to maximise the quality of semen collected. Monitoring procedures and records are audited to ensure compliance with the Pork Storks Quality Program and international standards.
In addition to minimising the potential risks of introducing live animals onto a farm, Artificial Insemination (AI) offers both genetic and economic benefits to producers. Using AI enables producers to have access to boar lines that are superior to those available by natural service. This highest quality semen enables producers to gain genetic merit faster than they would naturally.
Collection and Processing of Semen
Each collection is evaluated for motility, acrosome integrity, morphology and potential contaminants using the latest equipment available. An ELIX water purification system ensures that Type One water is available for extension, free of organics, inorganics and contaminants. All procedures from collection and processing through to the automated packaging are performed with the highest degree of hygiene and precision possible. The processing area is tested weekly to ensure all equipment and work areas are clean and bacteria free.
PSA also has clear protocols enforced for evaluating semen and is a member of an international boar stud benchmarking group. For the past 3 years Pork Storks has ranked in the top 5% in this international group of 40 boar studs.
Delivered Direct to Farm
The high quality semen is delivered directly from PSA in a temperature-controlled van to the farm semen fridge or farm gate insulated container. This ensures that there are no sudden changes in temperature that may affect semen quality. Transport temperatures are monitored by data logger and satellite monitored remote tracking systems. Semen is delivered to farm within 24 hours of processing.
On Farm Training and Education
All customers purchasing semen from PSA can undergo at no cost on farm training by the PSA technician and veterinary team. This training encompasses all areas of the reproduction system including storage of semen, preparation of semen, heat detection, insemination timing and technique, boar exposure, pregnancy detection, nutrition and feeding regimes, monitoring sow health and manipulating reproduction.
Continual education of customers in new reproduction technologies and management systems is available to customers at seminars and conferences conducted by Pork Stork Australia.
